INTERNATIONAL- STANDARDS AIRWORTHINESS OF AIRCRAFT ANNEX 8 TO THE COI-ON ON INTERNATIONAL QVZL AVIATION ADDENDUM TO THE FIFTH EDITION Containing Amendment 87 Effective 1 April 1964 APRIL 1964 INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION
ADDENDUM TO THE FIFTH EDITION Containing Amendment 87 Effective 1 April 1964 FOREWORD The Council on 13 December 1961 adopted Amendment 86 which became effective on 1 April 1962. This amendment was the result of recommendations made by the Fourth Meeting of the Airworthiness Committee, an international body of experts author- ized by the Council and functioning under the Air Navigation Commission. Subsequent to the issue of the fifth edition of Annex 8, the Council adopted on 12 November 1963, Amendment No. 87, consisting of a redefinition of the Standard Atmosphere and consequent extension of the ICAO Standard Atmosphere to 32 kilometres. This amendment, which became effective on 1 April 1964, was the result of action taken by the Council on a proposal submitted by the United States Committee on Exten- sion to the Standard AtmosphereCOESA, said proposal being submitted to all Contracting States for technical review and concurrence, and after further improvement, being reviewed by the Air Navigation Commission. This Addendum to the fifth edition of Annex 8 contains additional text representing Amendment No. 87. The applicability of the new definition of the term "Standard Atmosphere", which has been determined so as to comply with Article 41 of the Convention, is indicated in Part I - DEFINITIONS as an introduction to the definition itself. However, because of its nature it is desirable that this definition be applied as far as practicable on 1 June 1964.
