FOREWORD TO VOLUME I1 A complete review of The historical background of the development of -4n1lex 10, together wirh detailed information regarding the amendmelts to the ilnnes adopted prior to the publication of thls edition,' is contained in the Foreword to X'olume I. However, the following information is considered important for a good understanding of the purpose and scope of the maTerial in \Tolume 11. Up to and including the Seventh Edition, Annex 10 was publiihed in one volume con- tailing four Parts together with associated attachments Part I - Equipment and Systems, Part I1 - Radio Fre- quencies, Part I11 - Procedures and Part IV - Codes ar.d Abbreviations. Ry Amendment 42, Part I\ was deleted from the Annex the codes ad abbreviations contained in that Part were transferred to a new document, Doc 8400. As a result of thc adoption of Amendment 44 on 31 May 1965, the Seventh Edition of Annex 10 was replaced by two volumes Volunle J First Editionj containing Part X - Equip- ment and Systems, and Part I1 - Radio Freqaencies, and Volume I1 First Edition containing Communication Pro- cedures. Aslner 10, as a \\.hole, therefore coilsists of Volumes I and 11. Wllile i'olume I contains only Standards, Recommended Practices and Guidance Material, Volume I1 contains in addi- Alleldillent 46 affected both Volumes I and I1 of .Icnex 10. In so far as Volume I1 is concerned, ,\nendmcnt 46 corn- prising provisions for the transnijsion of ATS messages in- teded for use in an .ZTC computer, based on Kecommenda- tion 1/12 of the Fifth Sleeting of the .AT Automation Panel, was adopted by the Council on 7 June 1967 and became effective on 5 October 1967.
