FOREWORD The basic purpose of this Circular, which is published by authority of the Secretary General at the request of the Air Navigation Commission, is to assist national administrations in the timely planning of their aeronautical services to provide for the introduction of inter- national commercial supersonic transport SST aircraft operations. The guidance material herein was developed by the ICAO Technical Panel on Supersonic Transport Operations SST Pane1and is based on the best knowledge available to the Panel up to the end of its Fifth Meeting Montreal, 25 November to 13 December 1974, including the results of extensive flight simulator studies and data obtained from actual SST aircraft flight trials. The SST Panel believes that the guidance material will be generally applicable to any SST aircraft with a delta wing configuration and of a size and performance similar to the Concorde and the TU-144. The material prepared by the Panel has been reproduced with some editorial modifications to improve clarity or in the interests of editorial consistency. The SST Panel, at its Fifth Meeting, completely revised the guidance material in ICAO Circular 109-AN182 concerning "Planning of Air Traffic Services for SST Aircraft" and recommended to the Air Navigation Commission that the revised text, together with other guidance material developed by the Panel, should be published in a new ICAO circular dealing with various aspects of SST aircraft operations. The Air Navigation Commission approved the related recommendations of the Panel and requested the Secretary General to publish this Circular. The revised text of the guidance material on Planning of Air Traffic Services is included in this Circular as Chapter 2 and Circular 109-AN182 has accordingly been declared obsolete.
